Some progress

Visited the site yesterday on a grey late November day and took some photos as a "before" record. I've photo-stitched some of them to make the blog background panorama.It proved a bit of a battle with Picasa 3 but in the process I did learn how to compress photos to an appropriate size.

There's been a bit of an email thread since the meeting ,with a list of the potential plot holders and a couple of useful links to articles on setting up an association.

Mike the Lengthman has been round to spray the land with weedkiller.

New beginnings

I've become an avid reader of the "Over Kellet View" in the last few months,after seeing an article about the possibility of allotments in the village.Things then seemed to drag on until it was announced that there would be a site visit and meeting on the 12th November this year.I duly turned up at the site behind Church Bank yesterday and then attended the meeting in the Village Hall between the potential allotment holders, various Parish Councillors and advisers.

When I viewed the land in the summer it looked quite a small area but now that the leaves have gone from the thick hedgerows it seems a lot bigger and those who are interested look like getting a decent sized plot.The existing driveway area will probably remain intact and the old garage bases used for sheds,greenhouses and parking.

The lease arrangements between the Parish and City Councils still need to be finalised but let's hope that we can get on with forming an Allotment Association and start work on clearing the land fairly soon. Maybe I'll be planting something by Easter 2012?

Mallorca March-April 2011

24/4/2015 Mallorca walks update.Photos from my first "walking trip " to Mallorca, in 2011.

I'd previously been there on rock climbing holidays, based in Santa Ponca and Palma Nova ,but this trip was a eyeopener to how beautiful the island really is .

I stayed the week in Port de Soller which was a bit chilly later on in the evenings this early in the year.
As well as doing walks from the port, Soller town and Valldemossa ,on some days I took the early express (tunnel) bus back to Palma to link with the bus routes to Puigpunyent,Galilia and St Elm for walks in the western part of the island.
I was just too early for the start of the "summer" bus service which goes through the mountains to Lluc and beyond ,but this gave me lots of new ground to cover when I next visited in October 2013!
