Santo Antao,Cape Verde walks December 2019

Having done many walking trips to Madeira and the Canary Islands I decided to take a look at Santo Antao, the most north westerly Cape Verde island, which lies about 600 kilometres off the Senegal - Mauritania coast.A few more travel logistics are involved, including a stopover in Lisbon and onward flight to Sao Vicente and then a bumpy ferry across to Santo Antao.

Another JMT workparty on Isle Martin - late September 2019

It was good to return to Isle Martin a year on from my last John Muir Trust work party.

A bit less "heavy lifting" this year ( or at least I avoided most of it) but the first day always seems hard work and you need to remember to pace yourself.
I found some jobs more suited to me as a gardener and allotmenteer ,including weeding/mulching the basket willow patch; removing mulch mats from last year's JMT tree plantation; and collecting hazelnuts.
Also a lot more plastic guards were removed which will result in a lot less trees being strangled to death!

Austria July 2019 - Totes Gebirge and Hollengebirge

Another hut to hut trip in Austria with my pal Ernest.
After a north-south traverse of the middle Totes Gebirge on the first two days in dry weather via Puhringerhutte we had a soggy walk up to and down from the Loserhutte and decided to dodge the rest of the heavy rain and mist at the weekend by travelling round the mountains by train from Bad Aussee to Ebensee via Bad Ischl.Monday morning bought the promised fine warm weather and we then completed the rest of the planned route with an east-west crossing of the Hollengebirge from the top of the Feuergokel cable car to Weissenbach am Attersee staying at Riederhutte and Hockleckenhaus along the way.
